Mattel Intellivision
Mattel Intellivision is a classic home video game console first released in 1979. The console was a direct competitor to the Atari 2600, with games offering higher graphics quality than its rival.

The games for the Intellivision console are loaded on ROM cartridges that insert into a slot on the right side of the console. There is a wide range of games for the console, including classics such as Astrosmash, BurgerTime, Tron Deadly Discs and Pitfall.

The graphics of the Intellivision console are remarkably detailed and colorful for their time. The keypad on the controllers allows players to perform various actions that were unavailable in most other consoles of the time. For example, players can select different weapons or control their characters by pressing the number keys.

Mattel cooperated with General Instrument to offer the online service "PlayCable" or "PlayCable: The All Game Channel" for Intellivision in the USA, via which games can be downloaded with additional hardware via the cable TV network. The service worked with local cable channels, but was not very successful due to technical limitations such as a small internal memory of 4 KB and the inability to save games. The high cost to the user also contributed to the failure of PlayCable. As part of the video game crash, which also affected Mattel, the service was then discontinued in 1983.

Overall, the Mattel Intellivision is a great choice for retro gaming enthusiasts or those looking for a classic console that reflects the graphics and gameplay of the 80's.
Nice To Know
After a two-year test phase, the first online service for console games in the USA was offered for the Intellivision game console in 1981, with which games could be downloaded via the TV cable network.
