Jeu de Course

Jeu de Course is an antique mechanical horse racing game from the M.J. company. & Cie from France, which was manufactured between 1900 and 1920 and was used for betting. The betting game is functional and is operated with a metal lever on the front of the box. When the lever is pushed to the left, all horses rotate on the track for approximately 30 seconds. The racehorses are painted and have beautiful details. The playing board is made of felt and the rail is made of red painted metal. The overall condition is very good and is probably one of the best-preserved games of this type ever. In the middle of the playing field there is a container in which coins were collected for bets. This competition came in different sizes. The version that is in our collection has a size of 45 x 45 x 20cm which has four tracks with eight racehorses. However, competitions of this type were also created for events where rides, games and other attractions were offered, although these were also significantly larger.
